I pour either coffee (1/2 cup or so) or half of a can of sweetened condensed milk over the cake (poke holes first) to keep it very moist and then refrigerate until cold, cube and layer. I also do 2 chocolate pudding or chocolate mousse instead of 1 chocolate 1 vanilla.
