I have a puppy chow obsessed partner. So for his birthday, I decided to whip up a batch of these cookies as a surprise. I was really excited when the peanut butter cookies came out of the oven and were amazing (though a bit overwhelmed with the quantity) - I think i ended up with between 32 and 36 cookies.

When it came time to chocolate coat and powder sugar the cookies, I could tell immediately that I did not have enough chocolate. And the process was less than fun so I just went with what I had. I ended up completely coating 18 cookies. I used the rest of the chocolate to sort of drizzle the remaining cookies and then flicked the powdered sugar on top.

Moral of the story here: he liked the cookies as an experiment but felt, in the end, that he would rather just have puppy chow. In my eyes, they were almost too much to eat one whole one. So with both of us not loving them: not worth the effort. And I'd make a lot of effort for something peanut butter/chocolate delicious. I ended up eating mostly plain peanut butter cookies in the end.

These were awesome! I ended up just spreading the chocolate topping onto the top of the cookie and dipping the top in powdered sugar rather than dipping the whole cookie in both mixtures. They turned out great. My mom even said it was the best cookie she's ever eaten and I definitely agree! Also, for convenience's sake, I used a good ol' Betty Crocker peanut butter cookie mix. I will most definitely be baking these again :)

I made these for holiday cookies, and thought they were great.
After tasting one, I thought they lack the crunch of the "puppy chow", so I added some Rice Crispy cereal to the peanut butter cookie mix - it didn't help. They really were great cookies even without the crunch.

Also, I learned to make the peanut butter cookies fairly flat so the chocolate coating and powdered sugar tasted more, and the cookie a little less pronounced.

Great idea, and great recipe - we'll keep making it!

These are fabulous! We made them this weekend as a part of our annual holiday baking. These cookies were easy to make and they are our new favorite cookies. We will be making them over and over. The only thing we might do different next time is add more peanut butter, for a little more flavor, since we're big peanut butter lovers at our house. Thanks for sharing!

@ExpatCucina - I'm getting ready to make these and I would assume you roll the cookie in the powdered sugar before the chocloate solidifies. It probably needs to still be wet to pick up the sugar and make it stick. Also when you make muddy buddy mix non-cookie style the chocolate is wet when you put it in the powdered sugar bag. Then you lay it out to dry. I'm going to follow that same rule of thumb for the cookies. Good luck to both of us!

Hi there,
Wow, that is a blast from the past. As a SunButter blogger, I'm thrilled you opted for SunButter in these. The Muddy Buddy snack mix is one of the most -viewed recipes on our site, and your creation takes that a delicious step further.

Delicious! I made these for our family vacation this weekend and everyone commented on how amazing they were. My brother-in-law said they were the best cookies he had ever had! I was only able to coat 10 cookies in the chocolate coating though...I think I might have coated them a little too thick!!!
