Description

The perfect Christmas Holiday treat. Muddies Buddies, a.k.a. Puppy Chow. So ridiculously simple to make and addicting to eat! Gluten-free as well.

Ingredients

  • 9 cups Corn Rice Wheat Chex Cereal
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips
  • ½ cups Peanut Butter
  • ¼ cups Butter
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1-½ cup Powdered Sugar

Preparation

Place cereal in a large bowl and set aside. In a medium microwavable bowl, add chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave on high for 1 minute and stir. Microwave for 30 seconds longer and stir mixture until smooth. Stir in vanilla.

Pour sauce over cereal and stir until evenly coated. Spoon half of the mixture in each 1-gallon re-sealable Ziploc bag. Add 3/4 cup powdered sugar to each bag, and seal. Shake the bag until everything is coated. Spread on waxed/parchment paper to cool. Store in airtight containers in refrigerator.

Note: for a gluten-free variation, use only Chex corn and rice cereal. And please check your vanilla extract to make sure it is gluten-free, otherwise omit it.

I made this and served it in a real dog bowl (new and clean, of course!) at my niece’s Puppy-themed birthday! Of course, we called it Puppy Chow! Note: To be Gluten Free, you have to use the Rice or Corn chex, not the Wheat Chex!

We call it puppy chow here too, cause, well that is what it looks like.. mine always turns out less brown, maybe I don’t get the chocolate/peanut butter coating as complete.. anyway! I also dump the whole thing in to a big garbage bag to mix.. much more “earthy” that way!! Great stuff, EASY as pie to make and folks love it!
