I made this ice cream last night, and it was wonderful! The lemon isn't sharp like lemon ice, it's more like lemon meringue pie. I tweaked it just a tiny bit by adding the zest of one Meyer lemon and half a dozen chopped strawberries to the first step. A sample of the lemon mixture before adding the half and half made me want to just eat it up with a spoon right there! I restrained myself and completed the recipe. I used a whisk rather than a mixer because I needed the workout - it wasn't too bad. Kind of zen.

Because you add cold half and half to the lemon mixture, it cools down much more quickly than most ice cream mixes. I was able to put it in my ice cream maker after just two hours.

Speaking of lemon meringue pie, after this recipe, I'm thinking of mixing strawberries into the next pie I make. The flavor combination is awesome!
