I made something like this when I was younger. My brother got the recipe from the home ec. teacher. I later had the same teacher, but we did not get to try this out.

A fun project. Not the best ice cream, but definitely something to do with the kids on a rainy day.

incredible idea with the washing machine. that is thinking outside the box! i am going to try this as soon as my dieting is over! looks great. you could probably add nuts and chocolate chips too! when i do it, i will let you know how it turns out! we live far from town and dont usually get ice cream from the store as it gets melty on the way home. this recipe will solve that problem!

I used a similar recipe called “Tin Can Ice Cream” when I taught 4th grade for an end-of-the-year science activity. We used 1- and 3-pound coffee cans with lids, assembled the ingredients, and working with a partner, rolled the cans back and forth on the playground. In case of rain, we commandeered the cafeteria floor. The kids loved it, especially eating the results.
