My favorite movie in the world. I tried the cake yesterday – had to – and it was a perfect little dessert with whipped cream. For me, 1 cup of sugar was too much so I used 3/4 cups of suguar and it was pefect for my picky brood. Thanks for my new quickie desert.

I just watched this movie the other day for like the 1, 000th time in my life and I was suddenly struck with the idea to make this cake!! I was about to post it on my blog, when I found that you had the movie recipe! Woo hoo!

This was just ok for my family. I really wanted to like it because it was so simple to make with few ingredients, but it is not something I will make again.

I love all of your references to Steel Magnolias (’cause I love that movie as much as a girl from Canada could!) and I’ve never had the nerve to try to replicate Truvy’s recipe (I love the line about serving it over ice cream to “cut the sweetness”). Now that I see you used self-rising flour, it makes a little more sense … I always thought it was a joke!
