I use softened at room temperature butter. Please do not add milk to the batter, more butter or an egg yolk should be ok. Sorry the recipe did not work for you.

I have it chilling now. If I am not able to roll it out after it has chilled I will have to add more butter or milk or something to moisten it. I followed the ingredients as listed.
