Truly a delicious recipe, both as written and as a basic recipe to which you can add your personal touch. I usually add 2 pints of fresh fruit - blackberries, blueberries, strawberries or plums - along with some additional spices (nutmeg, allspice, ground ginger, etc.). I also sprinkle a cup of brown suger on top to make a strudel effect before adding the nuts.

But the recipe as written is delicious. Thank you!

This is definitely 5 mitts for ease, for being delicious and for being so adaptable. The results are outstanding - and to think it's all from canned fruit and a boxed cake mix. My grandsons love making this with me and, at 6 and 8, this is easy even for them. Typically I add fresh fruit to the canned ones: blackberries, blueberries, strawberries - usually 2 pint size containers of whatever is in season. I might also fiddle with the topping - sprinkling a mix of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ground ginger, a pinch of cloves along with a cup of brown sugar. It just depends on how much time I have.

This is an excellent recipe both as written and as a springboard for experimenting. Thank you!
