I have made this many times and always spread the cool whip on like frosting, and then sprinkle the top with the crushed candy bar pieces. Otherwise the top of the unfrosted cake is kind of ugly. Hope this helps : )

I love BTS (as it’s known in our household) I used to make this ALL The time! It is even AMAZING when you serve it warm.

In fact, when I was in college my roommates and I would make this (YES Stephanie, in a 9×13) pan and sit in the living room with a fork each and just dig in. We didn’t do this all the time, just the times when life was really bad and we needed a chocolate pick me up!

I would think that you could probably do either… It would probably be cleaner to cut if you put the cool whip on after. I will def have to try this cake very very soon (who doesn’t love sweetened condensed milk??)

I made this tonight and my kids absolutely scarfed it up!!! The only thing I would say is that the recipe needs to state what type of dish you bake the cake in?? Since it didn’t say, I made it in two 8″ rounds and unfortunately it all kind of fell apart when I went to serve it. SO, I actually served it “chunked” into parfait glasses topped with whipped cream and Heath bar pieces. LOL — my kids couldn’t get enough of it.

I’m guessing that you make it in a 9 x 13 dish instead??

Got a quick question: do you spread the Cool Whip over the entire cake “like frosting”?? Or do you just cut into pieced and put a dollop of Cool Whip on??
