I used the oil and only made a half batch of the icing with 1/2 block cr cheese, 3 tbl of butter, vanilla & 1 c pwd sugar- my boys prefer the un-iced ones but I love the cream cheese icing! So moist!

I have made both versions and I really can't tell one from the other. Sometimes you can... like using applesauce instead of oil in a brownie mix ... But these hold up really well to the lower calorie substitutions. I'm so glad the kids liked them! Great source of potassium.

I made these last night for a friend's birthday at work. They are great! I used applesauce and they turned out just fine. Many great compliments and gave the link for the recipe twice! Thanks!

These bars were great! I used the "healthier" version. I also used white whole-wheat flour. They came out moist and delicious and nobody even suspected that I used applesauce instead of oil! My kids even asked for seconds. This recipe is a keeper!
