While I like the taste of these waffles, they didn't crisp up very well in my belgian waffle maker. Since bisquik ones crisp up perfectly, I can't blame my waffle maker. I followed the recipe exactly. Any ideas??

When this was posted to the blog, one of the pictures mentioned (in the caption) adding baking soda. I see that isn't part of the original recipe. Do you recommend adding that as well? And if so, how much? TIA

I will definitely make these again. (ok, so partly because neither of my belgin style waffle makers would work once I got batter made) but waffles were perfectly delicious in my 18yr old heart waffle maker. I used all buttermilk and think next time I'll do half milk & half buttermilk. Also added 1TBL brown sugar . . . cause thats about all that was left in the bag after making candied bacon! yum. Delicious breakfast for dinner. Thx!

I made a half recipe on Christmas (it's just my boyfriend and me) and they were delicous! My boyfriend is already asking when I can make them again. As others suggested, I added sugar and vanilla (3 Tbsp sugar and 1 tsp vanilla for a full recipe) to the recipe, and the waffles were perfectly sweet with the blueberry compote we made.
