Oh wow I eat steel cut oats almost every day and I happen to have one of those little torches that I thought I "needed" for coloring metal peices for scrapbooking (???). This looks wonderful. I usually only cook mine for about 10 minutes tho.

We eat steel cut oats all the time! This looks great -- will definitely try soon. If you happen to be in a place with a Trader Joe's (I know SLC doesn't have one), try their quick cooking steel cut oats. They cook up in 8 minutes and honestly, I can't tell the difference between those and the regular ones.

Interesting recipe. Might have to try. The only thing missing is a torch. Is there any other way to carameliz the sugar.
