I have to say, though, they asked me what I was “burning”. I used pillsbury’s french bread in the can (so I would have the french bread on hand when Igot ready to use it, but wouldn’t have to worry about it spoiling quickly). I might should have baked the bread the day before, with it being still pretty warm when I spread the butter some of it slipped off.

I was skeptical at first that only butter could give it any depth of flavor, but I was wrong! My boyfriend even asked me what was in it and couldn’t believe it was just butter, it really changes flavor once it goes under the broiler. (but be sure to watch it closely under there, one side of our loaf got a little too crisp!)
