This cornbread wasn’t to my taste. I followed the recipe exactly and cooked it for 18 minutes. It turned out fairly dry and not as sweet as I prefer. I liked the crust, but it got a mixed reaction from my family.

Loved this cornbread. It is my go-to recipe. I loved how crisp the crust got, and the texture was AMAZING! I used lowfat buttermilk because I didn’t want it to go to waste. Well it went straight to my waist,(sorry) but it is worth every bit of it. Thank you!

This is a fantastic recipe! Our family fixes cornbread for having at every meal and we’ve sampled recipe upon recipe. This has become a family favorite at our house and has now been promoted to its own card in our recipe box.
The cornbread creates a great crust (my 5 year old son’s favorite part), has a perfect touch of sweetness, great texture that isn’t dense and it tastes great the next day at room temp (can’t be said about a lot of other receipes I’ve tried). In addition, it’s quick to make and uses panty staples.
Kudos to you on a fantastic recipe!

I love this recipe! It’s the closest to my grandma’s I’ve ever seen. I love the sweetness. I think it’s just a tad too much salt (but no one else in my house thinks that), but that could have been me being a little more heavy handed with it than the amount listed. I used my 10 inch skillet and it accommodated it very nicely!

This is my favorite cornbread recipe. It’s a little sweet and heating the oil in the pan really does make a difference in the cruncy crust. I do not have an 8 inch cast iron skillet, but have very good results using and 8 by 8 inch Pyrex baking dish. Thank you for posting this recipe!

easy and totally delicious. my bf said it was the best cornbread he’s had apart from his grandma’s! that’s definitely a compliment coming from a down-home southern boy!
