This turned out two beautiful loaves. I didn't have instant yeast so I proofed the yeast in the water with the sugar added while I measured out the other ingredients. When baking, I put foil over the loaves with about 25 minutes left because the tops were already browning and I didn't want them to get too dark. The foil tent trapped some steam from the pan in the bottom of the oven and kept the top crust from getting really hard, which my kids appreciated. The bread rose beautifully, but it isn't light and fluffy. It is dense and chewy and very, very good. Amazing to go from measuring ingredients to done, lovely bread in an hour!

This is my go-to bread to round out soup as a meal. I only make one loaf at a time because it's so yummy (especially when hot and dipped in the soup), I know we'd eat both in one sitting!

I make our own bread, and love doing it, but with 4 kids it's hard to find the time some days. This recipe is perfect! To make it a little more hearty I do 4 cups white flour 1 1/2 cups whole grain flour and 1/2 cup wheat germ. It comes out great! Thank you for sharing.

I just made this and it w as so easy and soooo delicious! I realized as they were cooling that I forgot to slash the tops of the loaves and they came out as kind of wide and short loaves so don't seem ideal for sandwiches. Could not slashing the tops have caused them to be shaped this way?
Either way, the bread is delicious!
