I am SO disappointed!! I don't have a lot of money so to go out and buy one of these large special onions is a treat for me. I saw this recipe and thought it would be wonderful- it's not. Soaked the onion like I was supposed to, put it in the batter... the batter came right off. Waste of my onion. now i'm stuck with kraft dinner to eat.

So easy! I'm glad I read the recipe carefully and saw that I needed to let the onions sit in the buttermilk for an hour. I recently went to Red Robin and they put onion strings on my burger, so I had to come home and try it myself--they were PERFECT!! Thank you for this one, Ree!

My family loves these! I had to double the batch last time just to make enough for everyone. The batter is so delicious and reminiscent of Jack in the Box (and that is a GOOD thing) but better! Make sure you let the oil get back to temp before dropping in the subsequent batches or you'll end up with an unevenly cooked finished product. They still taste great though!

These are melt in your mouth delicious. Better than my favorite restaraunt version, which is saying a lot. It is very easy to overcrowd the pan and end up with a gloppy mess though!

Mmmm! These were a hit! I used a mandolin to slice my onions and that made it so easy. Threw them in our deepfryer (which I love, makes frying so easy!) and they did not take long at all. I wouldn't change a thing. Dipped them in homeade barbeque sauce. Delicious!
