I have never been to Cincinnatti but my ex was a die-hard fan so we ordered it to be delivered from Gold Star. It is an aquired taste and I absolutly love it. I made this version earlier in the week. I am not a fan of the chocolate in it. I have another recipe that is also pretty close but it has brown sugar and oregano (no chocolate). I may try my hand at blending them together to make what I think would match the canned version better. The other recipe does not boil the burger though, which is essential for the texture.

I was born in Cincinnati but don't live there anymore. I don't get to return very often to get my Skyline/Dixie/Goldstar Chili fix (a couple of the brands of Cincinnati Chili), so this is a staple food at my house! I love that someone posted a recipe on here for this stuff!!! :)

We have a recipe very similar to this for making the chili from scratch, but for the busy people out there who like the recipe and want an "easier version" there is also a packet of the spices and ingredients you can buy. *Gasp* I know, it's not completely home-made, and generally the version above is going to be the best. But if you are in a rush and want something a little easier, for a nearly-as-good flavor, then the packets are great to have on hand. My family buys them by the box when we are in town, or you can get them on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Cincinnati-Chili-Mix-packets/dp/B000E4C1OK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361562282&sr=8-1&keywords=cincinnati+chili

Just make sure you halve the water (3 cups instead of 6) or you will have to cook the chili for hours and hours until it cooks down enough. Half the water and about 3 hours of cooking should do you just fine. Only thing the packet needs is the ground beef, some tomato paste and water. Tastes very very close to the original. :)

Enjoy!
