Description

I first had Genmaicha at a Japanese restaurant, alongside an amazing meal of sushi. Popular in Japan, Genmaicha is a simple mix of green tea and toasted (and popped) brown rice. It is aromatic and great on its own or after a filling meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Brown Rice
  • 1 cup Green Tea Leaves

Preparation

In a pan, over medium-high heat, toast the brown rice until golden brown. Keep stirring it. You will know that it is ready when it smells quite nutty and many of the kernels have popped. Make sure it doesn’t burn.

Let cool and mix with the green tea leaves.

To serve, boil water to 150-175 F and brew 1 teaspoon of Genmaicha per cup of water for 1-3 minutes, to taste.

Relax and enjoy.

That sounds great! I work in a tea shop and drink a lot of genmaicha, but never thought about making my own. Definitely have to try this, thanks!
