Description

My family asks for this over the jarred kind every time. If you also make my “Mom’s Meatball Meal,” I recommend using this recipe for your sauce. :) You can easily substitute fresh herbs for dried if you have them on hand from your garden.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Onion, Chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 28 ounces, weight (1 Can) Whole Peeled Tomatoes, With Liquid
  • 6 ounces, weight Tomato Paste
  • 2 Tablespoons Dried Basil
  • 1 Tablespoon Dried Oregano
  • 2 whole Bay Leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • ¼ teaspoons Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • ¼ cups Red Wine

Preparation

In a small skillet, saute onion and garlic in oil, until tender. Place onion and garlic as well as all remaining ingredients in a large sauce pot. Simmer for 2 to 3 hours over low heat. Remove bay leaves before serving.
