Description

A gooey chocolate brownie sprinkled with crunchy walnut pieces and made with the goodness of whole wheat flour and pure maple syrup. What could be better?

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • ½ cups Cocoa Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Sea Salt
  • 1 cup Chopped Walnuts, Divided
  • 1 cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • ½ cups Canola Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350ºF. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and sea salt. Add 1/2 cup of the chopped walnuts. Add the maple syrup, canola oil and vanilla and stir until combined. Pour the mixture into a non-stick 8 x 8 baking pan and spread evenly. Top with remaining 1/2 cup of walnuts and bake for 8-10 minutes. Brownies are ready when a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before cutting into 16 equal pieces.

The batter was very, very thick. (I almost didn’t even put them in the oven.) I am glad I did, these were good. Not to sweet and so chocolate-y. They are also RICH! I only baked them for 10 minutes, which produced a perfect brownie consistency.
