Description

This is a great recipe that I’ve been making for a while. Each year we buy and butcher a hog for our freezer. The sausage, pork chops and roasts are always gone first, so it seems we are always left with a number of ham steaks (sliced ham). I searched for an easy way to prepare it, besides, well … just ham. This is a delicious, filling and inexpensive way to do just that.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Onion, Diced
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 3 whole Medium-sized Potatoes, Peeled And Diced
  • 1 cup Ham, Diced
  • 1 can Sweet Corn, Drained
  • 1 can Cream Of Mushroom Soup
  • 2-½ cups Milk
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic, Minced
  • 1 dash Salt And Pepper, to taste

Preparation

In a soup pot, saute the onion in butter until soft. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer for at least one hour, or until the potatoes are soft. Simmer for a little longer for thicker chowder.

I will be honest. I did not care for this recipe. I would cut down on the onion unless I had an extremely powerful one. I give the soup about a “C” rating. Nothing to rave about for my tastes.

Easy and delicious. I used frozen corn which was fine. Good way to use up leftover ham!

I made this tonight and it was delicious. I didn’t add the garlic and it still was flavorful and hearty.
