Preheat oven to 400ºF.
Split squash in half and remove seeds. Season flesh with a little salt. Then place into a shallow casserole dish.
In a small bowl mix together butter, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Peel and dice apple. Place in the center of each squash. Top apples with butter mixture, then pour apple cider into the bottom of the casserole dish.
Place in oven for 45 minutes. Occasionally, baste squash with cider and butter mixture.
