Description

The perfect side dish. These beans are simple to prepare and so very flavorful. You’re gonna love them.

Ingredients

  • 2 strips Bacon, Diced
  • 2 cans Black Beans 15 Oz Each With Liquid
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Minced Canned Green Chilis

Preparation

In a medium saucepan add bacon and cook over medium high heat until fat begins to render. Reduce heat to medium and add the rest of the ingredients to the pan, stir to combine. Bring beans to a constant simmer over medium or medium high heat. (You want it at a high simmer, not completely boiling, but close.) Simmer for 1 hour or until liquid is reduced to a thick sauce. Serve.

This was a fail. These beans were nothing but sweet. Like a molasses soup almost. I think the ingredients are a great start but the proportions made it entirely inedible. I also think a hour cook time for canned beans is waaaay too long. They became mushy even with the simmer on low. I also think there was too much liquid added to recipe. Next time I’ll try 1/4 cup of brown sugar and just 1 cup chicken stock and no water and the whole 4 oz can of chilies and only simmer for 20 minutes while the rest of my food cooks.
