Description

Fresh green beans lightly dressed with barbecue sauce and a little bacon for good measure.

Ingredients

  • 1-½ pound Fresh Green Beans, Trimmed
  • 5 slices Bacon
  • ⅓ cups Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 clove Garlic, Minced
  • ⅓ cups Barbecue Sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • ¼ teaspoons Freshly Ground Black Pepper, Or To Taste

Preparation

Steam green beans OR cook in boiling, salted water just until tender; drain and set aside.

Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, reserving 1 tablespoon drippings in the skillet. Drain, then crumble bacon; set aside.

Sauté onion in bacon drippings until tender. Add garlic; cook and stir for 1 minute more. Stir in bacon, green beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup and black pepper to taste; cook and stir over medium-low heat until thoroughly heated. Makes 6 servings.

(Inspired by a recipe from Southern Living Annual Recipes 1986 cookbook.)
