Description

Just like Grandma used to make, all from ingredients you probably have on hand. Thanks to my mother for concocting this recipe when she cared for our fledgling family at the birth of our first child.

Ingredients

  • 1 head Cabbage, Or A Bag Of Pre-shredded Cabbage
  • 1 whole Carrot, Medium Size, Peeled And Grated (if Using Bagged Slaw, It May Already Contain Carrots)
  • ½ whole Green Pepper, Diced
  • ¾ cups Mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Yellow Mustard
  • 3 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Celery Seed

Preparation

Grate cabbage in a medium-sized bowl. Stir in grated carrot and diced green pepper. Set aside.

In a small bowl, mix together remaining ingredients until well blended. Fold into grated cabbage mixture and chill at least 30 minutes before serving.

You may adjust the amounts of all ingredients in the recipe, namely vinegar and sugar, to suit your taste. A little extra sugar will easily sweeten the dressing of this salad.

This is what I was looking for…I like the mayonnaise-based dressings better. I used less sugar, about a teaspoon, because I like mine less sweet. I also started with 2 T. of cider vinegar to taste, and found that combination just fine. I didn’t have any yellow mustard, so I used grainy. I also didn’t have any celery seed. Thanks so much for an easily adaptable recipe to what you have on hand.
