Description

The ONLY dressing we use on our fresh spring garden greens. The ONLY dressing my kids eat. A unique vintage recipe from my father-in-law.

Ingredients

  • 5 Tablespoons Half-and-half
  • 1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon (heaping) Sugar (or To Taste)

Preparation

Mix ingredients together and serve over plain fresh garden lettuce. Feel free to adjust sugar and half-and-half to taste. We also enjoy thinly sliced spring green onions on top of the greens with the dressing.

My father-in-law’s original recipe (over 70 years old) called for white vinegar. This is delicious too. I just happen to love balsamic.

Wow, did this take me back (way back!). We used to go pick leaf lettuce from the garden and have it drizzled with cider vinegar and sprinkle sugar on top. Your recipe sounds great, plan on trying it soon.

This is a similar recipe to my families “vintage” recipe also, we just add a bit of salt and pepper too it.

I needed a last minute recipe and found this one! I used white vinegar with success. Normally my husband doesn’t like creamy dressings, but he liked this one since it’s not gloppy. Yum!
