Braising the frisee softens the crunch and brings flavors forward. A warm salad can be a great substitute and change from the classic cold summer salads. This pairs very nicely with fish and seafood!
In a pan over high heat, add olive oil, shallot, garlic and red pepper flakes. Fry for a minute (until garlic becomes fragrant) then add mushrooms. Cook for 4-5 minutes (until mushrooms look golden brown and a little caramelized), then add frisee lettuce. Fry for a minute or two and take off the heat as soon as the frisee becomes slightly wilted. Season with salt and pepper. Serve.
Peppery watercress pairs beautifully with the sweetness of strawberries and earthy flavor of toasted hazelnuts. Served with a red wine vinaigrette.
A classic southwest salad made with kale for extra nutrition and topped with a homemade cumin ginger sage dressing.
