Description

A delicious version of the traditional Sloppy Joe sandwich with a twist.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE SANDWICH:
  • ½ cups Chopped Green Bell Pepper
  • ½ cups Chopped Onion
  • 2 teaspoons Olive Oil
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Pepper
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Hot Sauce
  • ⅛ teaspoons Salt
  • 3 whole Hamburger Buns (top And Bottom)
  • 3 whole Hamburger Buns (bottom Only)
  • FOR THE SANDWICH TOPPING:
  • 2 cups Shredded Green Cabbage
  • 6 slices Red Bell Pepper
  • 6 slices Red Onion

Preparation

Chop the green bell pepper and onion. Add the olive oil to a heated skillet. Sauté the green bell pepper and onion over medium heat until they start to soften. Then add the ground beef and black pepper. Brown the ground beef.

Once the ground beef is done, remove the mixture from the skillet onto a paper towel to drain off the excess grease.

Add the ground beef mixture back into the hot skillet.

Add the ketchup. Then add the hot sauce and water.

Stir and let simmer until the Sloppy Joe mixture thickens (about 20 minutes).

Add 1/8 teaspoon salt, or salt to taste.

To serve, add about half of the Sloppy Joe mixture to the three bottom pieces of the buns.

Then top with about half of the shredded cabbage, sliced red bell pepper, and sliced onions.

Then top with another bottom piece of the bun and add more of the Sloppy Joe mixture.

Lastly, add more of the topping ingredients before adding the top piece of the bun.
