Description

This hamburger has crispy bacon bits mixed right into the meat, along with garlic and a surprise inside – melted smokey cheddar cheese. Topped with BBQ sauce and sweet grilled onions with a splash of balsamic vinegar, these burgers are the All-American dream!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BURGER:
  • 1 pound Bacon, Sliced In 1/2 Inch Pieces
  • 2 pounds Ground Chuck
  • ½ cups Greek Yogurt
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • ½ teaspoons Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 6 whole Hamburger Buns
  • _____
  • FOR THE CARAMELIZED ONIONS:
  • 2 whole Onions, Sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar

Preparation

For the burgers:
Cut up bacon and saute over medium heat until crisp and browned, but not blackened. Reserve 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in pan to cook onions and remove the rest of the grease. Drain the bacon pieces on paper towel to cool. Mix meat, yogurt, garlic, salt, pepper and drained (cooled) bacon together and divide the meat mixture into 6 equal parts. Cut each part in half. Form two equal size balls by rolling in hands, then flatten each piece. Place one square of cheese in center of bottom patty and top with 2nd patty. Press edges firmly together to thoroughly enclose cheese. Grill 10 minutes flipping once halfway through cooking.

To Cook Onions:
Cook onions over medium heat in same pan that you reserved the bacon drippings in. Add in sugar, salt and pepper and balsamic vinegar. Saute, stirring often until browned and carmelized.

Place grilled hamburger patties on the burger buns. Spoon onions over the tops of the burgers, and top with a drizzle of your favorite BBQ sauce and the top bun. Enjoy!
