Description

A true family favorite, this classic dish pleases even the pickest eaters. I like to simmer my sauce for hours, letting the flavors marry. But it can be served in as little as 30 minutes when needed!

Ingredients

  • 1-½ teaspoon Olive Oil
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 whole Yellow Onion, Chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 28 ounces, weight Can Of Whole Tomatoes
  • 6 ounces, weight Can Of Tomato Paste
  • 15 ounces, weight Can Of Tomato Sauce
  • 8 ounces, fluid Water
  • 1-½ teaspoon Dried Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 2 pounds Dried Spaghetti Pasta
  • Parmesan Cheese, Grated, For Topping (optional)

Preparation

1. In a 4-5 quart pot, drizzle a little olive oil on the bottom and heat to medium heat.
2. Add the lean ground beef to the pan and brown. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Add in the chopped onions and cook until tender, adding in the garlic for the last 1-2 minutes.
4. When the beef is cooked, add in the canned tomatoes (with all of their juices), the tomato paste, the tomato sauce and the water. I just fill the can of tomato sauce halfway to measure the water, it does not have to be exact. Stir to incorporate.
5. Add in the seasonings and stir. Using your spoon, break up the tomatoes. Taste and add salt and pepper if needed.
6. Simmer the sauce on low-medium heat while you prepare the pasta according to the package directions. You can let the sauce simmer longer if you are not in a hurry. The longer the sauce simmers, the better it will taste.
7. Serve with freshly grated Parmesan cheese to top (optional).
8. Enjoy!

This was a good base but to me it really had very little flavor. I had to add alot of seasonings.
