Description

Best. Sandwich. Ever.

Ingredients

  • Artisan, Sourdough Or French Bread, Cut Into Desired Slices
  • Shaved Or Sliced Smoked Turkey
  • 4 ounces, weight Brie Cheese, Cut Into 1/4-inch Slices
  • 1 whole Apple, Cored And Cut Into Thin Slices
  • ½ whole Red Onion, Thinly Sliced Into Half Moons
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil

Preparation

In a small saucepan, melt 1 teaspoon oil over medium heat. When hot, add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are browned and beginning to caramelize, about 10-12 minutes. Set aside.

Place a single layer of brie on one slice of the bread. Top with sliced turkey, apples, caramelized onions and finally with another layer of brie. Place the other slice of bread on top of the sandwich. Preheat a skillet or indoor grill pan to medium heat. Place the sandwich in the pan and top with a heavy skillet or panini press (I have a cast iron panini press I use with my indoor grill pan). Grill for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and heated through.

I am guessing I either did not have the right type of apple or turkey because we did not care the flavor combination. I really like the idea of having the brie, apple and turkey but mine was not a hit. I am sure I did something wrong!

What type of apple do you recommend (it’s not specified in the recipe)? Sweet or Tart? I followed the recipe per instructions, using a Braeburn and really did not like the flavor combination. Perhaps a tarter apple would be better?

This sandwich is delicious. I made 2 of them the first at the recipe said I just left mine on the grill a little longer, I like mine crunchy. The second I left off the apple and dressed the bread with garlic mayo. Yummy both ways!
Thank you so much. Keep Cookin’

My favorite panini ever! I was a bit reluctant to put one of my precious honey crisp apples in a sandwich, but it was more than worth it. Delicious combination.

I gave my mom this recipe and she made these for a luncheon the other day. She added honey mustard and they were a HUGE hit!!! People were asking for the recipe and someone got seconds!! So thanks so much for an amazing sandwhich.
