Description

Sloppy Joes just like when I was a kid.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Onion
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 2-½ pounds Ground Turkey Or Beef
  • ¼ cups Cider Vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons Dark Brown Sugar
  • ⅓ cups Ketchup
  • 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Hot Sauce, Optional
  • 1 can Tomato Paste, 6 Oz
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon Mustard
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 6 whole Hamburger Buns Or Kaiser Rolls

Preparation

Finely dice the onions and saute them in the olive oil. Once the onions are tender, add the ground turkey or beef. Cook the turkey or beef and break up big pieces using a spatula or spoon. Add the vinegar, sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Combine and let it simmer for a bit.

Next add the can of tomato paste and combine well. You can thicken or water down the consistency to your liking by adding more or less water. I like mine to be kind of thick, so I added about a third of a cup. Next add the Dijon mustard and mix well. Grate the garlic and add it to the pan. Let everything simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes on medium heat to make sure all the flavors meld and the meat is cooked through. Ladle a scoop or two of the meat onto a hamburger bun or kaiser roll.

Good Stuff! I am not a big fan but my husband wanted these for dinner. I have to say I lked them. I made two changes. I used 4 Tbs of worchestershire and added chopped bell peppers.

The men in my house were speechless. I was told these are better than most mom’s versions. I might add some veg for some crunch next time.
