Description

My solution to the plight of living in the country without Chinese takeout!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CHICKEN:
  • 3 whole Chicken Breasts, Cut Into 1 To 1/2 Inch Chunks
  • ½ cups Milk
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1-½ cup All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 cups (approximate) Vegetable Oil For Frying
  • _____
  • FOR THE SAUCE:
  • ½ cups Water
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • ⅛ cups White Vinegar
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • ¼ cups Cornstarch
  • 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Toasted Sesame Oil
  • ½ teaspoons Granulated Garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons Toasted Sesame Seeds

Preparation

For chicken:
Place milk and egg in a shallow bowl and beat together.

Place flour in a shallow dish, a pie plate works well, stir in salt.

Dredge chicken pieces in flour, then dip in egg and milk mixture and then back in flour.

Heat oil (about 2 inches of it) in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to about 350 degrees F. Fry chicken in batches until browned and chicken is cooked through. Remove to paper towel lined plate to drain.

For sauce:
In a medium sauce pan on medium heat, add water, chicken broth, and vinegar. In a small bowl combine sugar and cornstarch together, then stir it into the broth liquid. Add soy sauce, sesame oil and garlic. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring often, until it comes to a boil. Lower heat and cook just until thickened.

You can pour the sauce over the chicken or dip each piece of chicken in the sauce.

Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and serve it over rice.
Enjoy!
Miss

This was tasty, but a little too sweet for me. Next time I’ll cut back on the sugar.

Wow. So simple and SO tasty! My husband LOVES chinese food, and he absolutely loved this dish! I couldn’t find toasted sesame oil, but the sauce was still very flavorful. I fried the chicken up in my fryer and they were done in a flash! Will definitely make again. :)

Yummy yummy yummy! Love the sauce and easy to make. You must use toasted sesame oil for the sauce or it won’t be the same. Thanks for such a great recipe!
