Description

This is an adaptation of a recipe I found on the internet a few years back.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (10.5 Oz. Size) Condensed French Onion Soup, Divided
  • ½ cups Diced Onion More Or Less To Your Taste
  • 1 package (about 1 Oz. Size) Onion Soup Mix, Divided
  • ½ cups Bread Crumbs Or Panko Bread Crumbs
  • ⅛ teaspoons Freshly Ground Pepper
  • 1 whole Beaten Egg
  • 2-½ pounds Ground Beef Or Ground Turkey (I Use A Mixture Of Both)
  • 1-¼ Tablespoon All-purpose Flour
  • 1 can (10.75 Oz. Size) Condensed Cream Of Mushroom Soup
  • ½ cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ cups Sliced Mushrooms, Or More To Taste (optional)

Preparation

In a large bowl, mix 1/3 cup condensed French onion soup, diced onion, 1 tablespoon dried onion mix, bread crumbs, pepper and beaten egg with ground meat. Once mixed well, shape into 8 oval patties.

In a large skillet, brown both sides of patties over medium-high heat. You can pour out excess drippings But I leave my in.

For the gravy, in a bowl, blend flour and remaining French onion soup until smooth. Then mix in the cream of mushroom soup, remaining dried onion soup mix, water, mustard powder and Worcestershire sauce till well blended.

Pour the gravy over the browned meat in the skillet and cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Uncover and cook for an additional 5 to 10 minutes to thicken the sauce. The gravy is wonderful with mashed potatoes.

Note: You may add sliced mushrooms with the gravy if you like!
