Description

Because savory pumpkin needs some love, too!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef
  • ⅓ cups Pumpkin Puree
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • ⅛ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Cumin
  • ⅛ teaspoons Allspice
  • ⅛ teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
  • 4 slices Swiss Cheese
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 6 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, Divided
  • 1 whole Yellow Onion, Sliced Thinly
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 9 leaves Sage
  • 4 whole Hamburger Buns

Preparation

In a large bowl combine, beef, pumpkin, garlic powder, cinnamon, allspice, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Form hamburger patties and set aside.

Preheat a skillet to medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Place hamburger patties into the skillet and cook for 5 minutes on the first side. Flip and cook an additional 4 minutes, placing cheese slices on top of each patties during the last minute allow it to melt. Once cheese has melted and burgers are cooked, remove from skillet and set aside on a plate.

In another skillet preheated to medium heat, add 3 tablespoons unsalted butter. Add onion slices, salt and pepper to the skillet. Saute until soft and golden brown, about 15–20 minutes. Make sure to stir often to keep the onions from burning. Remove from skillet and set aside when done.

In another skillet preheated to medium-high heat, add remaining butter to the skillet. Add sage leaves and fry them in the butter until crispy, about 3 minutes. Remove sage leaves with a slotted spoon and set aside.

To assemble, place burger patty on a bottom bun. Top patty with caramelized onion and the top bun. Using a toothpick, place 2 fried sage leaves on top of the bun to make sure they stay in place. Serve immediately.
