Description

This is a deliciously different way to serve pork chops. Each with a rich, golden souffle-like topping make them extra special.

Ingredients

  • 6 Pork Chops, About 3/4″-1″ Thick
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 2/3 Cup Whole Milk
  • 1 Egg, Lightly Beaten
  • 2 Tablespoons Grated Onion
  • 1/2 Cup Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Freshly Grated Nutmeg
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Freshly Ground Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Parsley

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350*.

In a large skillet, lightly brown chops on both sides in one tablespoon of oil. Arrange in a 13 x 9″ greased baking dish.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Whisk in flour. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until thickened.

Remove from heat, allow to cool a minute, and then whisk in egg very slowly. Add remaining ingredients and blend well.

Spoon mixture evenly over each pork chop.

Bake for 30 minutes, covered. Remove cover and continue to bake another 10-15 minutes, or until chops are fully cooked and topping is golden and internal temperature of meat is 160*.

Makes 6 servings. (Do not over-cook…if your chops are boneless or a different thickness, adjust cooking time.)

The pork did turn out nice and moist, but the souffle topping was very bland. I may try it again with some horseradish or something similar. I also recommend tempering the egg rather than just trying to add it very slowly to the hot mixture.

This dish was excellent! My husband kept commenting how good it was – this will be a keeper for us! I’m not that great of a cook so I wasn’t sure how much flour to use so I went with 2 tbs and it must’ve turned out like it was supposed to – tasted fabulous! Thank you!
