Description

This is spaghetti that has been kicked up a notch in many ways. It is the perfect combination of comfort food and rich delicious flavors. This recipe is pretty enough to serve straight from the skillet, leaving no other dishes to wash!

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Green Onions, diced
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 pound Extra Lean Ground Turkey Or Beef
  • ½ packages (about 16 Oz. Package) Italian Sausage (3 1/2 Links) With Casings Removed
  • ¼ teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes
  • ½ teaspoons Italian Seasonings (I Use Mrs. Dash Tomato Basil Garlic)
  • 1 can (28 Oz. Can) Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 8 ounces, weight Spaghetti, Broken Into 3 Pieces (I Use Half Of A 14oz Box Of Thin Spaghetti)
  • ½ cups Fresh Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • ¼ cups Heavy Whipping Cream (also, Regular Milk Works Fine)
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese

Preparation

1. Saute green onion in the olive oil on medium heat 5 minutes.
2. Add beef and sausage, brown over medium-high heat.
3. When almost brown, stir in pepper flakes and Italian seasoning.
4. Once browned, stir in crushed tomatoes, water and salt.
5. Add broken spaghetti. Push spaghetti into the liquid, and cover for 8 minutes.
6. After 8 minutes, stir pasta so the noodles won’t stick together. Reduce heat to medium low, simmer for 6 more minutes until pasta is al dente (almost cooked but still a little firm).
7. Add parmesan cheese, and cream (or milk), stir well.
8. Sprinkle top with mozzarella cheese, put in the oven to broil for 3 minutes or until spotty brown (watch carefully or the cheese will burn). Basically the top will look like a cheese pizza.

My husband read the title of this recipe and asked with worry in his voice “what is wrong with normal spaghetti?” All his worry disappeared with the first bite.
