Description

A family favorite that even my mother-in-law requests!

Ingredients

  • 1-½ pound Ground Turkey, Pork Or Beef
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ¾ cups Milk
  • 1 whole Onion, Chopped
  • 1 cup Oatmeal Oats
  • 1 teaspoon Sage
  • 1 Tablespoon Thyme
  • ¼ cups Ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Yellow Or Brown Mustard

Preparation

This can be made with a variety of ground meats. I often use half ground turkey and half ground pork.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and have a 13×9 inch pan waiting.

Mix the eggs and milk in a medium size bowl. Add in the onion, oatmeal, and herbs. Mix well. Add the ground meat and mix well using your hands.

After mushing it together well, dump it into the pan and shape it into a loaf shape. Longer is better, since it will cook more evenly.

Bake for 50 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a measuring cup, prepare the topping by combining the ketchup, brown sugar and prepared mustard. When 50 minutes is up, take the pan out and pour off the grease into a heat-resistant container. (Be CAREFUL, this can be heavy and HOT.) Spoon the topping over the loaf and spread evenly.

Put the loaf back into the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.

We serve this with homemade mac and cheese and green beans for family dinner night with my mother-in-law. She almost always requests it.

This is a simple meatloaf recipe and it’s great. I’ve made it several times with both ground beef and turkey- both turn out wonderfully. My kids and husband like it, too. Meatloaf doesn’t need to be fancy to be tasty! Thanks for sharing!
