Description

My kids have a new favorite dish: Mama’s Mashed Potatoes and Meatballs! It is a yummy and sweet gravy matched up perfectly with mashed potatoes. Comfort food that fills up your belly and warms your heart!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Lean Hamburger
  • ½ cups Bread Crumbs
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Onion Powder
  • 1 can (29 Oz. Can) Tomato Sauce
  • 1 can (10.75 Oz. Can) Tomato Soup
  • 1 teaspoon Yellow Mustard
  • 4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 3 Tablespoons Water

Preparation

In a large bowl, combine hamburger, eggs, bread crumbs, garlic salt and onion powder. Mix together with your hands. In a soup pot, combine tomato sauce, soup, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire,
and honey. Bring to a low boil.

Make medium-sized meatballs from the hamburger mixture. Drop meatballs one by one into the simmering sauce. Once all the meatballs are in the pot, cover and simmer on low for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally and vent the lid about halfway through the cooking time.

Add cornstarch to the water in a small bowl. Mix together until smooth. Add this mixture to the simmering meatballs during the last 5 minutes of the cooking time. This will make the gravy good and thick! While the meatballs cook, whip up a batch of mashed potatoes the old fashioned way. When the meatballs are done, serve them up on top of the mashed potatoes! Make sure to dump a ton of gravy with the meatballs. Enjoy!

This was really good! We didn’t have potatoes, but it is also good with rice. Next time I will try it with mashed potatoes though. My husband said, ‘Whatever you put in this sauce is great!’ My kids liked it too. Thanks for the recipe; it is a keeper!
