Description

This healthier version of Sunday Sauce will keep you coming back for more! We used lean turkey to make a delicious favorite that is almost 1/3 of the calories of traditional Sunday Sauce. This recipe requires turkey meatballs, and you can find a recipe for it in the related blog post.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • ½  Large Yellow Onion, Chopped
  • 5 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • 2 cans (29 Oz Size) Tomato Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons Crushed Red Pepper
  • 12  Turkey Meatballs (Store-bought, Or See Related Blog Post)
  • 5 whole Italian Sweet Turkey Sausage Links

Preparation

In a large pot, add olive oil and onions and begin to brown over medium heat. Right when they begin to brown, add garlic in the center of the pot.

Once onions are garlic are golden brown, add tomato sauce and stir for about 30 seconds. Once it reaches a boil, stir again, lower heat to low and add Italian seasoning and crushed red pepper. Stir and cover.

Prepare turkey meatballs and get them in the oven if necessary.

In a separate pan, brown turkey sausages, making sure they are fully cooked inside. Cut links in half and add them to the sauce; stir.

Once meatballs are fully cooked (35–40 minutes), add them to the sauce and stir. Allow all the flavors to blend together for about 1 hour on low heat, stirring occasionally.
