Description

I don’t know where the name came from, but this is a good, easy, and filling meal!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 whole Onion, Small, Diced
  • 1 package Sloppy Joe Seasoning (McCormick's Or Other, 1.5 Ounce Packet)
  • 1 can Tomato Paste (6 Ounces)
  • 1-¼ cup Water
  • 2 cups Elbow/shell Macaroni
  • 1 can (15 Oz. Size) Drained Kernel Corn
  • 2 cups Grated Cheddar Cheese, Divided

Preparation

Cook the onion and the meat in a large skillet until the meat is brown. Drain the fat. Stir in the sloppy joe seasoning, tomato paste, and water. Bring to a boil; simmer 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook the macaroni according to package directions and drain. Stir it into the meat mixture, and at the same time adding the corn and 1 cup of the cheese.

Pour into a buttered or greased 9×13 pan, top with the remaining 1 cup cheese.

Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.

Could you possibly substitute a can of sloppy joe mix for the tomato paste, water and seasoning? It sounds logical, maybe I will try it and see! Has anyone else?

This recipe originated at Marzetti’s restaurant in Columbus, Ohio. I did a wiki search and found lots of information! My mom made a version of this that I still make for my family. Thanks!

My grandma always called this Johnny Marzetti, but I don’t know the origins of that either?
