Description

Traditional pizza baked in an iron skillet. Perfect deep dish pizza.

Ingredients

  • 1 package Yeast (.75 Ounce Packet)
  • 1-½ cup Warm Water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 3 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Shortening, Melted
  • 2 whole Iron Skillets, Large
  • 14 ounces, fluid Pizza Sauce Store Bought Or Homemade
  • 12 ounces, weight Mozzarella Cheese
  • Optional Pizza Toppings (pick Your Favorite)

Preparation

Use any pizza toppings of your choice

Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water with salt and sugar. Add 2 cups of flour and beat well. Add the melted Crisco. Mix well and then add another cup of flour and knead on a well floured surface. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and let rest for 30 minutes. Divide dough in two and place in two well greased iron skillets. Add sauce and any pizza toppings of your choice and top with cheese. Put in hot oven (450 degrees) and bake until brown.

If you only want to make one skillet pizza, divide the dough equally in half. Wrap one half in plastic wrap and then place in a large zip lock bag. Place in the freezer to use at another time. Place remaining half in a well oiled skillet.

Good recipe! Why buy a pizza stone when you’ve got an iron skillet?! :)
