Description

Great Hawaiian style recipe for pork ribs. I also garnished with basil leaves from my herb garden.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Pork Ribs
  • 1 whole Onion
  • ½ pounds Bacon
  • 1 cup Crushed Pineapple (canned)with Juice
  • 2 teaspoons Liquid Smoke
  • 2 Tablespoons Steak Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dry Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 cup Canned Sliced Pineapple
  • ½ cups Honey
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • Maraschino Cherries (garnish)

Preparation

Preheat oven 450F.

In a large pot add water (enough to cover the ribs) and bring to a boil. Once it’s boiling, add ribs and reduce heat to medium low – you want it to simmer – and cook for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile cut onions. Remove ribs from pot and place in a large glass pyrex cooking dish. Wrap each rib with uncooked sliced bacon then add crushed pineapples with some of the juices. Sprinkle with liquid smoke and steak sauce. Season with dry mustard and pepper. Add sliced pineapples on top and bake 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and pour honey over top then brown sugar and place back into oven for 25 minutes longer. Remove from oven and check to see if done by cutting into one of the ribs juices should run clear and there should be no pink). If done then garnish with maraschino cherries. I also garnished with basil leaves from my herb garden and sprinkled a little cherry juice for added sweetness.

I a m going to make this tonight and I am assuming that you put the cut up onions in the pyrex dish with the ribs? You say cut them up but you never say what to do with them……

This was delicious! I didn’t add the cherries or basil because I didn’t have any but it still tasted great. I used all the juice from the cans of pineapple instead of “some” giving additional flavor and sweetness to cook the meat in. I will make this again. Thanks for a wonderful recipe.
