Description

What do you have planned for July? Probably at least one picnic, cookout or road trip. Tammie and I thought that sandwiches would be the perfect food for our recipe posts this month. So …

Here’s a hearty sandwich that could serve 8 or for eaters like those in my family serves 4. I did not use any condiments on these subs since the flavors meld well in the grilling process.

Ingredients

  • 2 whole Loaves, Baguette Length, Honey Wheat
  • ½ pounds Sliced Honey Ham
  • 1 pound Sliced Smoked Turkey
  • 1 whole Medium Onion, Sliced Thinly
  • 8 ounces, weight Roasted Red Peppers
  • ½ pounds Sliced Swiss Cheese

Preparation

Slice loaves into 4 sub sandwich rolls and with a sharp knife, hollow out and remove some of the bread.

Layer ¼ of the ham on one side of the roll and ¼ of the turkey on the other. Layer ¼ of the onions, red pepper and cheese on top of the meats. Close the roll and wrap well with aluminum foil.

Grill on the top rack of your BBQ (or you can warm thoroughly in your oven). Grill for about 15 minutes turning several times.

Made these for the 4th and they were delicious!! It’s an excellent way to have a hot sandwich for a crowd. I’ll definitely be hanging on to this one.
