Description

Easy and delicious spaghetti sauce, just like Grandma makes it!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian Sausage Links
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • ¾ cups Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 cup Diced Onion
  • 1 cup Diced Green Bell Pepper
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 jar Prego Traditional Italian Sauce (24 Oz. Jar)
  • 1 can Petite Cut Diced Tomatoes With Green Chiles (14.5 Oz Can)
  • 1 can Mushroom Stems And Pieces (6-8 Oz. Can)
  • 2-½ teaspoons Salt

Preparation

Cut Italian sausage links into 1 inch thick slices. Finely slice garlic clove into small, thin pieces.

Heat a stock pot with the oil to medium heat. Once oil is hot add diced onions, diced peppers and sliced garlic clove. Cook for roughly 6-8 minutes, or until onions are light brown.

Add ground beef (leave as ground) and sausage slices to sauteed onions/peppers/garlic mixture and cook until meat is browned. Then drain off any grease and return pot to the heat.

Stir in traditional Italian sauce, petite cut diced tomatoes, mushrooms (not drained) and salt. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer 4-6 hours (stirring occasionally) for optimal taste.

Serves 4-5 but can be adjusted for larger crowds. Works best with whole wheat noodles and garlic stick bread.
