Description

This is another recipe from my German mom that she made for us often growing up.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE MEAT PATTIES:
  • 1 pound Lean Ground Meat
  • 1  Onions, Chopped
  • 1  Egg, Beaten
  • 1 Tablespoon Dried Parsley
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Black Pepper
  • 1 cup Bread Crumbs
  • Vegetable Or Canola Oil For Frying
  • FOR THE GRAVY:
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil, Or As Needed
  • 1  Onion, Chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons Flour
  • 2 cups Beef Broth

Preparation

For the meat patties, mix all ingredients except bread crumbs together and form into 4 balls. Place bread crumbs into a shallow dish and roll balls into crumbs and form into patties. Heat oil in a skillet on medium high. Place patties in skillet and brown both sides. Cover, reduce heat and cook patties for 20 minutes or until no longer pink inside. You can serve them just like this with potatoes and veggies as sides.

For the gravy (optional):
Remove patties from skillet. Add enough oil to so that there is 2 tablespoons oil in skillet. Add onions and cook until soft, 2–3 minutes. Add flour and whisk. Cook for 1 minute. This makes your roux for the gravy.

Add beef broth to the skillet and whisk until thickened. Put beef patties into gravy and serve.

Hope you enjoy this German family recipe!

Finally made these the other night. Supper quick and easy and delicious! I used 1 cup of beef broth & 1 cup 2% milk in gravy and it turned out great. Will make again soon.
