Description

Serve over hot rice or orzo for a satisfying meal!

Ingredients

  • ¼ cups Butter
  • ¼ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth
  • ¾ cups Grated Parmesan Cheese, Divided
  • ½ cups Heavy Cream
  • 3 Tablespoons Sherry
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 pinch Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 head Broccoli, Steamed And Cut Into Florets
  • 3 whole To 4 Whole Skinless, Boneless Chicken Breast Halves - Precooked Store Bought Slices, Leftover, Or Cooked To Your Preferred Method
  • ¼ cups Slivered Almonds

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Melt butter or margarine in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in flour; add chicken broth and stir until thick. Then stir in 1/4 cup parmesan, cream, sherry or wine, salt and ground black pepper. Stir until cheese melts and mixture is thickened. Remove from heat.

Place broccoli florets in a 9×13 inch baking dish. Pour 1/2 of the cream sauce over the broccoli and top with chicken slices, pour remaining sauce over the chicken slices. Sprinkle top with 1/2 cup parmesan and the slivered almonds.

Bake 30 minutes at 350F, then broil 5-8 minutes to brown top. Serve hot over rice or orzo pasta.

This is the first time I made chicken divan! And it won’t be the last! I followed the recipe exactly, and it was good tasting and good texture! Unfortunately, I am a tweaker, so next time I might add half a can of cream of mushroom /cream of chicken (only because i am a cream of something junkie) and maybe add panko breading or Ritz crackers on top for some texture! Thanks for sharing!
