Description

Takes a little more time and ingredients, but worth it! If you have time, make this the day before serving to allow all the flavors to blend.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Turkey Sausage
  • ½ pounds Lean Ground Beef
  • ½ cups Onion, Diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Finely Minced
  • 1 can (28 Oz. Can) Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 Oz. Can) Tomato Paste
  • 2 cans (6.5 Oz. Can) Tomato Sauce
  • ½ cups Water
  • 2 Tablespoons White Sugar
  • 1-½ teaspoon Dried Basil
  • ½ teaspoons Fennel Seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Cracked Black Pepper
  • 4 Tablespoons Parsley, Divided
  • 16 ounces, weight Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 12 whole Lasagna Noodles
  • 1 package (16 Oz. Package) Mozzarella Cheese
  • Parmesan Cheese For Topping (optional)

Preparation

1. In a large pot, simmer sausage, beef, onion and garlic until browned.
2. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water.
3. Season with sugar, basil, fennel, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and 2 tablespoons parsley.
4. Simmer while preparing ricotta mixture.
5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, egg, nutmeg, and remaining 2 tablespoons parsley.
6. In a 9 x 13 baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce to cover the bottom of the dish. Arrange uncooked lasagna noodles over the top lengthwise (about 6 noodles—they will cook and become soft when baking in the oven). Spoon ricotta mixture over the noodles. Top with some mozzarella.
7. Repeat layers and top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese if desired.
8. When ready to serve, bake in the oven at 375 degrees for 60 minutes. Cover for 30 minutes, and uncover for the last 30 minutes.
