Description

Turn an inexpensive cut of meat into a great meal!

Ingredients

  • 1 package (about 6-8 Pieces) Chicken Thighs, Bone In
  • 1-½ cup Apple Juice Or Apple Cider
  • 1 cup Barbecue Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Dried Mustard
  • 1 pinch Spices To Taste

Preparation

Lay the chicken on the bottom of the crockpot, skin side up. Pour enough apple juice to come just below covering the chicken. Add the bbq sauce, dried mustard, and whatever spices you want depending on your taste preference. Rosemary, thyme and oregano all work well. Some of the blended spices are nice also. Experiment.

Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Remove the chicken with a slotted spoon and be certain to pull out the bones and skin. The meat will fall apart as it’s removed. Serve over rice or on rolls for ‘pulled chicken’ sandwiches.

I’m making this for dinner tonight. I needed something I could toss in the slow cooker and let it sit until we get home tonight. This sounds great to me but my husband is a little apprehensive. (He’d rather stick to the “norm.”) I’ll come back and let y’all know how it turns out!

This was definitely much too sweet for me, although my boyfriend enjoyed it. It needed a bit of tangy taste to cut through all the sweetness. Maybe a bit of cider vinegar added. I didn’t even use a sweet barbecue sauce, which probably would have made it nearly inedible. Much too sweet, and many other recipes to try, so unfortunately I probably won’t be making this again. Not a whole lot of herbs or other ingredients thrown in either, so all you really taste is the sweet chicken. My boyfriend won’t be happy, but he’s not the cook around here :-)
