Description

Savory, creamy and quick and easy!

Ingredients

  • 1 box Farfelle Pasta, 16 Ounce Box
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage
  • 28 ounces, weight Canned Petite Or Crushed Tomatoes
  • Salt And Pepper, to taste
  • 1 pinch Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 8 ounces, fluid Heavy Whipping Cream
  • ½ cups Parmesan Cheese Plus Extra For Sprinkling When You Serve
  • 1 bunch Fresh Basil Leaves

Preparation

Side Notes:
I like to use petite diced tomatoes that come flavored with garlic, olive oil and oregano for extra flavor without extra work or ingredients.

I like to use sweet Italian sausage, but choose according to your heat level. If you can’t find bulk sausage and all your market carries is link sausage, just remember to take off the casing!

Don’t forget to add salt and a pepper after each step!

Cook pasta according to package instructions (make sure to salt your water!).

While the pasta is boiling, heat a good size skillet, preferably one with high sides, and start browning your sausage over medium heat (use a little oil to ensure nothing sticks and to get the browning started).

Once your sausage is browned and cooked, add your can of tomatoes, slightly drained.

Let the flavors incorporate and add a little salt, black pepper and pinch of red pepper flakes (if you like it hotter, add more).

Once the mixture comes to a bubble, pour in the heavy whipping cream (now your mixture should be pinkish in color). Stir to incorporate, lower your heat, add your 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese (have more on hand to pass around the table) and let it simmer for a few minutes.

Right before you take it off the heat, cut up or tear up some fresh basil leaves and stir it into the sauce.

Add a little bit of Parmesan cheese to your cooked and drained pasta (it will help the sauce stick to the pasta). Now you are ready to add your pasta to the sauce and dinner is ready!

This was awesome! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I didn’t have the cream so I used a substitution (1/3 melted butter, 3/4 cup whole milk), so it probably wasn’t as creamy as it could have been. I also just had plain tomatoes, so I added some garlic, basil, & oregano. Loved it!!! :)

I was looking for something a little different and ran across this recipe and decided to give it a try. The only changes I made were that I only used half of the box of pasta and it was plenty! I used fat free half & half to try to reduce the calories a bit. I used the hot Italian sausage and still added a little crushed red pepper to give it a kick. This was really delicious, especially considering how quickly it went together. It was super easy. I would definitely make this again and would serve it as a company dish without reservation. I served it with a salad and garlic bread which was perfect. This a a good one!
